Mark G. Stavros, MD, FACEP, ABAM
Chief Medical Director
Mark G. Stavroz MD is an experienced physician who has been practicing medicine for over 18 years and is board-certified in Emergency and Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Stavros expanded to providing services to the Gulf Coast in various Emergency Rooms and currently provides emergency medicine services for Emergency Medicine Group, LTD across Coastal Mississippi. It was during this time providing emergency care to patients with addiction issues that he recognized there was an urgent need for a medically driven addiction treatment.
Dr. Stavros joined Access Recovery Solutions in 2009 as a consulting physician, and then became the Medical Director in 2011. As his experience and focus in addiction medicine grew, Dr. Stavros earned his Diplomat Certification from the American Board of Addiction Medicine in 2012. Dr. Stavros currently coordinates Florida State University College of Medicine’s Emergency Medicine curriculum and training of third- and fourth-year medical students. He is the Education Director for Emergency Medicine for the College of Medicine and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Florida State University, College of Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences
Dr. Stavros has been an attending physician for the Emergency Departments at Santa Rosa Medical Center, Sacred Heart Hospital and Baptist Hospital. Furthermore, Dr. Stavros currently is a Flight Physician for Lifeguard Air Ambulance. He is currently the Medical Director of the Pensacola State College Paramedic and EMT program.
Courtney Rowling, M.D.
Board Certified General Psychiatrist
Dr. Rowling joined the Access Recovery Team in 2016 after she moved from Michigan to Florida. She is passionate about treating both addiction and mental illness to provide comprehensive care for patients and their families alongside the skilled ARS team. She is excited and honored to help this clinic provide comprehensive mental health care as well as addiction treatment. Dr. Rowling has a passion for learning and providing the best standard of care. She learns from patient’s, staff, and stays current with the latest research in addiction psychiatry.
She attended Wayne State School of Medicine in Detroit, did her residency at the University of Michigan and a partial fellowship in addiction psychiatry. She trained and worked for the University of Michigan where she provided outpatient care and inpatient consultation for addiction psychiatry and general psychiatry. As a resident and Addiction Psychiatry fellow at the University of Michigan, she has worked in a variety of settings for the past 6 years including the VA, University Inpatient Hospital, Psychiatric Emergency Room, Community Mental Health, Ambulatory Care, Inpatient Psychiatric Consultation, ECT, Inpatient Psychiatry, and in the buprenorphine clinic. She has experience treating most age groups and focuses on ages 18 and older. She has worked with Health Care Professionals in Recovery as well as pregnant women with addictions. She practices many therapeutic modalities and utilizes the most evidence based strategies available. She is excited to join this clinic and continue her journey in addiction psychiatry!
Kerri Heegeman, ICS, CSAC
Kerri was born and raised in Neenah Wisconsin. She has over 25 years’ experience in the Substance Abuse field. She has been certified with the State of Wisconsin since 1990. Kerri has worked both inpatient and outpatient treatment with adults, adolescents and families. She spent the last 12 years serving as the Clinical Supervisor for a Medication-Assisted Treatment program. Kerri has proven herself as a born leader and has now risen to the challenge of taking over as the Executive Director of Access Recovery Solutions. LLC in effort to repeat the similar progress she has achieved in her former home state of Wisconsin.
Susan Shafran, MSW, RRTP
Susan Shafran is a licensed clinical social worker from New York, with over thirteen years of experience, working with adolescents, adults, and their families with substance abuse, trauma, PTSD, personality disorders, psychosis, anxiety, depression, dissociative identity disorder, ADHD, and dual diagnosis. Susan has additional expertise in drama therapy, traumatic healing, and motivational techniques. She continues to expand her range of knowledge and practice through integration of new concepts and professional liaisons. These collaborations include the fields of psychology, nutrition, physical fitness and holistic health models.
Susan is very proud and excited to have joined Access Recovery Solutions elite team of highly qualified professionals that recognize the need to integrate mind, body and spiritual approach in recovery. Susan’s passion is connecting with people and providing them with the tools they need to heal, move forward, and maximize their potential.
Susan received her undergraduate degree at SUNY University, New York at Albany, and earned her Masters of Social Work at Adelphi University in New York. Susan is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers.
John Varano, MA, LCMH
One of the key staff in creating the caring environment enjoyed by many at Access Recovery is Primary Counselor John Varano. John earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology at Florida Atlantic University, and earned his Master’s in Mental Health at Argosy University (Sarasota, FL Campus). He is currently working on a Master’s in Theology from Franciscan University. John particularly enjoys helping individuals find their journeys to recovery with a multidisciplinary approach to drug and alcohol rehabilitation as he practices at Access Recovery. John has worked in the field of substance abuse for four years and is known to teach his clients to, “Stay Vigilant!”
Toshina Rawlins, RN
Toshina has served in the nursing field for over 15 years, starting as a CNA while in high school. She attended South Tech Charter Academy, where she obtained her LPN licensure in 2004. Her passion for nursing started when she was just a little girl. Toshina was born in Texas and is a die-hard EAGLES fan. She has an amazing boyfriend, 3 beautiful children, and 2 gorgeous step children.
Prior to working for ARS, she has had the privilege of working in many specialty areas of nursing including teaching, acute care, primary care, detox, and MAT. Being a nurse in addictions allows her to grow as a medical professional, supporter, and educator. She is a firm believer in taking a multidisciplinary approach to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Barbi Dunaway, LPN
Barbi received her LPN license in 2000 and has experience in various clinical settings including 10 years in internal medicine in the Birmingham, Alabama area. After returning to her home state of Florida, Barbi explored the field of occupational medicine and assisted injured workers by referring them for cognitive behavioral therapy in efforts to help patients cope with their physical pain.
As a case coordinator, Barbi realized the need for compassionate nurses in the field of addiction and has found her place at ARS not only to help those suffering from addiction, but to make an impact on the lives surrounding those.
Angelique comes from Long Island New York and has moved to Florida to make a difference in others’ lives as well as her own. She has joined ARS in June 2016 and has a background in administration, marketing, content writing, and blogging. Although her tasks are administrative she makes sure each patient gets the care they deserve while in recovery. Angelique’s skills range from multitasking, exceptional customer service and all clerical duties. Angelique Strives to keep a well-organized stress-free experience for both patients and employees and tries to help as much as she can!
